How AI Can Support Your Creative Business

I’ll bet you were like me when you first started your small creative business, all you wanted to do was create. For me I was excited to roll, shape, sculpt and fire my beautiful, one-of-a-kind jewelry. But then… it happened. I kept creating. The ideas kept flowing. And suddenly, my hobby turned into a bit of an obsession. And a rather expensive one at that!

Then something amazing happened: my friends and family wanted to buy my pieces. So I thought, “Hey, maybe I could turn this into a little business." I'm sure you can relate to everything I've just said!

Problem is- no one tells you that running a business means you’re not just a maker anymore. You’re also the social media manager, email writer, product photographer, website builder, pricing strategist, and full-time admin assistant.

Well, that’s where AI comes in.

What if there was a way to get a little help with all of the marketing, the writing, the organizing? Wouldn’t this give you more time at your bench and less time at your desk?

So… What Is AI, Really?

Let’s break it down without the tech overwhelm.

AI is short for artificial intelligence sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, but it’s actually just a fancy tool that can help you with everyday business tasks. Think of it like a super smart assistant who’s always available, never gets tired, and can help you write, plan, brainstorm, and organize instantly.

One of the most popular (and easiest!) tools right now is called ChatGPT. It’s kind of like talking to a helpful friend who’s great with words. You ask it a question or give it a task — like “write a product description for a silver pendant with a flower design” — and it’ll give you a starting point you can edit to sound like you.

The best part? You don’t need any tech skills to use it. If you can write a message or ask a question, you can use AI.

Getting Started with ChatGPT (Without the Tech Headache)

If you're new to AI and wondering where to start, I recommend trying ChatGPT — it’s one of the easiest and most powerful tools out there for small business owners and creatives.

You can create a free account at chat.openai.com and start playing around right away. The free version works great for simple things like writing, brainstorming, and organizing ideas. That’s how i started out and if you're anything like me, you'll quickly see the value in the paid version (ChatGPT Plus) — it's about $20/month and totally worth it if you plan to use AI regularly in your business. It’s faster, more powerful, and gives you access to the newest features.

#ProTip: Introduce Yourself to Your AI

One of the first things I did when I started using ChatGPT was give it a little background about me and my businesses. I told it things like:

  • I’m a metal clay jewelry artist
  • I create memorial and celebratory jewelry under the brand daVoria jewelry
  • I teach and coach other jewelry designers and creative business owners
  • I run a membership called the Accountability Collective that focuses on planning and productivity
  • I like to write like I’m having a conversation

Now when I start a new conversation, my "Chat" knows who I am — which makes the responses more personal and aligned with my voice and goals.

You can do the same thing! Think of it like building a relationship with a very smart assistant who gets you.

Once you start having a conversation with it you can let it know that doesn’t sound like me. Can you make it more like this or like that? And you just go back and forth just like you would with an assistant.

5 Easy Ways to Start Using AI in Your Jewelry Business Today

You don’t need to do everything — just pick one little task where you usually get stuck or waste time. Here are five ways AI can help lighten your business load:

1. Write Product Descriptions That Don’t Sound Boring
I don’t know about you, but I hate staring at a blank screen trying to figure out what to say.

Try asking AI:

“Can you write a short product description for a pure silver pendant with a textured heart and freshwater pearl?”
You’ll get a solid starting point that you can tweak to sound like you.

2. Brainstorm Social Media Captions

Are you out of ideas for what to post? Just say:

“Give me 5 Instagram caption ideas for a handmade necklace inspired by nature.”
AI can help you break the scroll with captions that feel fresh, fun, or even emotional — depending on what you want.

3. Draft Your Email Newsletter
Instead of procrastinating for days, ask AI to help you draft a friendly email to your subscribers. Something like:

“Write a short, friendly email letting my customers know I’m launching a new collection this weekend.”
You’ll still want to personalize it, but the hard part — getting started — is done.

4. Plan a Workshop or Class
A lot of us hosting metal clay classes? Ask AI to help you organize your outline:

“Can you create a 3-hour workshop plan for beginner metal clay artists?”
You can even get title suggestions, supply lists, and promo ideas!

5. Make Admin Work Less… Ugh
Need a checklist for your next show? A spreadsheet to track expenses? A script to talk to wholesale buyers?
AI can help generate templates and outlines for the behind-the-scenes stuff that usually feels like a time suck. I just keep tweaking and adding and taking things away when I’m having my “Chat” conversations

Just Try One Thing

You don’t have to become a tech expert. You don’t even have to use every new tool out thats out there. But if you try AI for just one small thing in your jewelry business this week, you might be surprised at how much time (and stress) it saves you.

Whether it’s writing a product description, planning your next show, or finally sending out that email you’ve been putting off — let AI help you with a head start.

Because the more time you can spend at your bench creating, the more your business will feel like yours.

So go ahead — ask it for help. You’re still the artist. AI is just here to hold the clipboard.
